Swing Hammock For The Backyard
|
Do You Have A Backyard Hammock? |
Whether your yard is in the woods or on the open plains, you can relax in the warmth of the summer sun. A hammock can be rolled up and made portable with a stand or hung between two trees for a more permanent home
Hammocks were originally created by native inhabitants of jungle regions for sleeping. Later, they were used aboard ships by sailors to enable comfort and maximize available space, and by explorers or soldiers traveling in wooded regions.
Today hammocks are popular around the world for relaxation; but they are also used by families and individuals on camping trips… for sleeping outdoors.
A good hammock is very comfortable because it molds to one’s body contour. For people with bad hips, bad shoulders, or bad backs, coming home and relaxing in a backyard hammock may be "just what the doctor ordered". In a properly suspended hammock, the body assumes an orthopedically correct position.
Hammocks can be purchased in solid water-resistant canvas or woven rope. The double hammock I had hanging in the woods behind my lawn was a woven one and large enough for two people. By myself, I would spread out and watch the full moon at night. That is a real treat, if you’ve never done it.
Woven rope hammocks are my choice. Start with a white one as you may discover it weathering quite nicely into a gentle gray color, characteristic of an old clothesline.
Hammock shapes are not exclusive to bedding. Hammock "chairs" have become very popular. Equally comfortable, they take up less space and can be hung from your porch rafters.
