A couple of years ago I realized I had a blank wall against the side of my house. I had previously grown tomatoes there, but decided I wanted something more permanent. And so, I planted a trellis!
The vines grew so thick and heavy and were covered with sweet little yellow flowers (can’t remember the name of it). I let the vines grow to the top of the trellis and then hang down like a waterfall. What a pretty sight!
The trick to getting something to grow on your trellis or arbor is to train the vine as it puts out new growth. Tying the stems with something stretchy and gentle, like tomato ties, is a perfect training tool.
A trellis can be created from metal, wood, plastic… and come in many colors. Likewise for arbors which are famous for that "walk-into-the-garden" area and for wedding and party entrances.
